Different Stages of Writing a Book report

We have been learning how to write a book report. Our group did it throughout term 4. We have done different activities e.g. K-W-L Chart, Matilda picture, Character Grading, Word Find, Summary writing, Discussion, Proverbs, On-line comprehensions and etc. We will be watching the movie soon. We have made the Matilda Book Marks, too. We studied about Metaphors, Personification and Similes in Matilda. We were listening to the book CD and read it together. We have enjoyed reading the book and doing the activities. We are proud to put this on the blog.

Matilda book report

This book report has beeen written by Y6 ESOL students at Milford School, who have been going to an English speaking school for less than a year.
Matilda is a genius girl, who reads lots of books. She teaches herself how to read and longs to read books. She has a brother, Michael and mean, dishonest parents.Matilda’s father, Mr Wormwood, sells the second-hand cars illegally, and Matilda doesn’t like it.As her parents get mean to her, she decides to punish them. She borrows a parrot (Choppy) from her friend, Fred, to scare her parents. Finally, Matilda’s parents asked her to go to school. She went to the school with the worst headmistress ever. While Miss Trunchbull, the headmistress, treats children as stupid dogs, Matilda meets the kindest teacher, Miss Honey. Miss Honey wants to know how much Matilda knows about basic multiplication. When Matilda says she knows all of it, Miss Honey is surprised. Miss Honey asks Miss Trunchbull if Matilda could move her to higher grade, but Miss Trunchbull refuses. After that, Miss Honey brings some hard books for Matilda to read while the others are learning multiplications. A few weeks later, when Miss Trunchbull comes to her class to teach them, Matilda sees Miss Trunchbull treating class badly and she makes her first miracle by making newt jump on to Miss Trunchbull.
Miss Trunchbull thinks Matilda put a newt in her jug, and keeps being mean to her. When Miss Honey tells Matilda that Miss Trunchbull is her aunt, Matilda comes with a plan to scare Miss Trunchbull away. Matilda asks Miss Honey about Miss Honey’s dad and Miss Trunchbull’s name. Matilda practises her plan again and again with her eyes. When Matilda is used to her power, Miss Trunchbull came to Matilda’s class to check them.
When Miss Trunchbull punishes Matilda’s friend, Matilda uses her power to write a message to Miss Trunchbull, pretending to be Magnus, Miss Honey’s father and Miss Trunchbull gets scared and runs away. Miss Honey gets her father’s house. By that time, Matilda’s parents get sued and try to run away to Spain, and Matilda gets adopted to Miss Honey. And they lived happily ever after.

Keeping ourselves safe

Today a policeman came to Room 13. He wanted to tell us how to be safe when we cross the road. We practised how to cross the road and how to press the button on the traffic lights. I felt special because I got to go into the police car and pressed the sirene. Did you hear the noise?

Korean Puppet Show

On Thursday, 8 November, the whole school went to the school hall for a Korean Puppet Show. There were five puppetiers and seven different puppets. They told us about each character. We liked all of them, because it was awesome and amazing. We all giggled, because the first time it was really funny. We knew they had practised hard. The costumes were beautiful.
The real show will be at Bruce Mason Centre.

school trip

We went on a boat trip. The boat was called The Tiger Cat.
Its speed was very fast. So I got sea sick. First we had a photo on the steps. But the sun was on everybody’s face. We saw the Sun Princess. Its sister was the Sea Princess. I remembered that The Sun Princess can go to England.
The boat was huge and beautiful. A thousand people could go in it! We went under the Harbour Bridge. First The Tiger Cat went slow then it went fast. I went outside and inside, out, in ,out, in, out. Then it was time to go to school
