Milford School chess team have once again proven that they are the great champions. Less than a month ago, they won the North Shore Primary Schools Chess Tornament, and last Friday,28 August 2009, they won the Auckland Primary Schools Championship, sharing the first place, and the trophy, with the Blockhouse Bay Primary School. Our team, William Zhang, Winston Yao, John Jiang, William Kelly and a reserve player, Roger Wang, will represent Milford School at the Nationals Finals in Palmerston North at the end of the term.
We are proud of our chess players. This is what the officials said about our bright stars: “And congratulations go to all the finalist teams for their efforts. It is a great achievement to make the Auckland finals by proving you are the best in your zones. All your players fought hard and showed great sportsmanship. They were a credit to your schools. “
William Zhang is travelling to Turkey to represent NZ under 8 boys at the World Youth Chess Championship in November this year.
Also Winston Yao represented NZ at the same competition last year which was held in Vietnam.

Students about Milford School
Are you having a great time at Milford school, everyone? My name is Hannah Kang in room 2. I was a student in Milford school for 4 weeks. Satisfying with my time at this school, I met very good teachers and friends. I met Tracye and Mrs.S at ESOL. Also, I met Ms.Keen , my class teacher. At ESOL, I learnt that there are 47million sheep in New Zealand . I was amazed. I learnt about the All Blakcs, Maoritanga, Tarawera, Opo the Dolphin, and Marae. I recognized that there is many interesting historys and stories in New Zealand. Learning these things were pleasant time for me. And, in my classroom, I met many friends, like, Emma, Dana, Charlotte, Olivia, Yun-Jung, Joyce, Hyo-Won, and Beth. They were very kind and funny. I made good memories with them. Especially, Joyce, who helped me in many homeworks and things I have to do in my class, was very kind and was good friend for me. And, Mrs. Keen, you were very important teacher for me. Thank you for taking care of me and room2. Last, but not least, to Tracye and Mrs.S, thank you very much for teaching me with your effort. Teachers and students in Milford school, have a great time in this school and thank you for giving me times and chances to experience. I had wonderful time being in here. Again, thank you to all of you. All hours, minutes, and seconds at here was beautiful. by Hannah

Christian the Lion
Room 8's Sam Nicholson (on the photo with Lucy Ohj) is one of the three winners in Random House’s poster competition where primary and intermediate schools from around the country were invited to make a poster inspired by Christian the lion’s remarkable and true story. Thanks to Sam, he and his Room 8 classmates were some of the first people to get their hands on a copy of Christian the Lion:The true story of a lion’s search for a home.
Sam has won 30 copies of the book for his class, and Random House has also asked bookstores throughout the country to display his poster to promote the new book.

Doctor's visit
Then he told us some things that he needs when he operates on people, for example, goggles, a hat to cover your hair, a mask and gloves. He told us about some other things, but I can not remember them.
Miss Garnett, my teacher, had to choose one person to go on the stage and, she chose me. I don’t know why.
So I went up on the stage. They had to operate on me. Well, it was a fake operation. It was a sort of fun. It felt weird, very weird. At the end of the show, everybody clapped, and of my friends cried, because she was worried about me. It was fun.
