Students about Milford School
Min Jae, 8
I have been at Milford School since February 2010. I go to Room 8 and my teacher's name is Miss Clark. I have many friends in my class. I love Milford School because my teacher and my esol teacher help me a lot to learn English better. I am going back to Korea in a few days time. I will miss my friends and my teacher. I would like to come back to Milford school again.
Yun Seo, 11
I am an international student in Milford School. I like my teacher Ms
Keen and my ESOL teacher, Mrs S. When I go to Takapuna Intermeadiate School, I will miss my friends and the other teachers who helped me a lot. But I will miss Esol the most, because I learned many many things and improved my English skills at ESOL. Also, when I go back to Korea, I am going to miss New Zealand and I will never forget it!

International Refugee week
This week is International refugee week. Our ESOL group made this poster for the refugees. We were learning about the refugees and about what it feels to be a refugee. Our friend Yun-seo Read 2 books about refugees and the one book is about a refugee from North Korea to South korea. We all enjoyed to listen the story. Our freind Andrei said " It's sad to leave their own countries but It's better than dying." We hope that our poster is a way of expressing support to all the refugees around the world. We also hope that the number of refugees decreases in the years to come.

CHILDREN'S DAY IN KOREA
The 5th of May is Children’s Day in Korea. Korean children get presents from their parents. Children’s Day is a holiday in Korea. On that day, most children go to theme parks or have picnic or go to shopping centres and get presents. Happy Children’s Day to all the children.
This is what the founder of Children’s Day, Pang Chong Hwan, said:
“Children are the future of our nation. Children who grow up with ridicule and contempt from others will become people who disrespect others, while children who grow up with respect from others will become people who respect others in turn.”

HAPPY RACE RELATIONS DAY - 21 MARCH
Sunday, 21 March is a Race Relations Day. Here, at Milford School, every day is a Race Relations celebration, as we have a number of students coming from many different parts of the world. We have children from Korea, China, Japan, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Serbia, Italy, Spain, France, the UK Iran, Iraq, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Ukraine, Russia, Tonga, Samoa, South Africa, Egypt… you name it.
At Milford School, we appreciate cultural diversity and are aware that the culture we grow up with, teaches us the appropriate behaviour for certain situations and enables us to interpret the behaviour of others who came from another cultural background. We have a group of Year 6 students who attend Multicultural Club every Tuesday lunchtime where they learn about other countries and from this year are learning how ho prepare food from the other parts of the world.

The Drumming Show
There was a drumming show at our school on Tuesday. It was in the hall. All the children went to see it. A very talented musicisn, called Dylan played the drums for us. He used drum sticks, a cow bell, brush sticks, cymbals and a prickle drum. It was very loud and he played nice songs. There was a big screen where we could see his hands and feet in action. It was awesome.

ESOL students came from countries like Korea, Japan, China, Serbia, Chile, Venezuela, India, New Caledonia, South Africa, Samoa, Tonga, Iraq, Philippines, Spain, and Indonesia. Some kids come to ESOL class more often than others. It all depends on how much English they need to learn.
